Watch Our 4D Ultrasound Video! Expectant parents often ask us how long they should wait before coming in for a 4D ultrasound scan. Obviously, if the scan is carried out too early, the foetus will not have developed far enough to give a satisfactory image, but waiting until the final weeks of your pregnancy isn't a very good idea either. Many people believe that they must wait until at least 30 weeks to book an ultrasound session, but this - if you'll pardon the pun - is a misconception.
Here at First Encounters Ultrasound, we offer 4D scans from 24 weeks to 32 weeks ; however, we recommend weeks as the optimum time for a 4D scan, as this allows us to accommodate babies who are developing at a slower or faster rate than average. It would be a shame if you visited our clinic at the start of your 24th week, only to find that your baby isn't quite ready for the camera yet!
So, to answer your question: the best time to have a 4D baby scan is around 27 weeks. Tell us all about your experience by visiting our Facebook page here. Discover our new range of pacifiers — made in Switzerland. Choose a location. Your breastfeeding journey.
The first 12 weeks of pregnancy can go by in a flash while you and your partner adjust to the life changing news that two is soon to become three! It is such an exciting time but can also be a little worrying and hard to believe. As long as all is well, you will be left to your own devices until you reach 12 weeks and are able to have your first scan and amazingly see your little one for the first time.
Firstly, the gestational age of your baby. If your baby is 16 weeks you may see your baby's whole body. At this stage they are quite little and the facial features aren't very distinguishable due to there being very little fat under the skin and the baby being about the size of an avocado, but it is always lovely to see them wriggling.
If you are investing in a 3D or 4D scan then the earliest time to get the best images is at around 24 weeks and up to 34 weeks. At 24 weeks we are starting to see baby's features more clearly as babies are a bit bigger at this stage and the sound waves have to travel a much shorter distance and can pick up better echoes creating a clearer image. Of course, as with all imaging this is still dependent on whether or not there is sufficient clear fluid around the area that we wish to see.
From 28 weeks babies tend to look aesthetically more like they will when they born.
