Also this is a really cool article.. I found the part in the book on how they achieved this sound on the vocal. It was recorded at QDivision in Boston which at the time was in a large disused factory warehouse. The ooooooooooh vocals were cut in a large all cement toilet which could hold over people by Steve Albini. The book is called 'Fool The World', if you like reading - it's a really good read with all the key people of the time being interviewed.
